There are several procedures to treat the wood so the posts can long last and resist decay and bugs.

The common type of wood posts are made are cedar and redwood. There are pressure treated procedures to prepare the posts for fencing, where the wood is placed onto cylinders where preservatives are applied at high pressure; while there are other kind of procedures to apply those same preservatives, but in a less industrial, less expensive way, these are commonly called non-pressure procedures.
